Dabaang

Dabaang is now India's biggest opener now with 81 crores earned in just the first week. This title was previously held by blockbuster 3 Idiots.

Dabaang is a blockbuster now and it has gathered some exceptional reviews. However, do you think that Dabaang deserves this success?

I watched the movie few days ago and despite it being very entertaining, I don't think it's worth so much attention. First of all, the movie has brilliant songs. All songs are worth listening to and some of them are just beautiful. Secondly, the comedy is great. You will laugh throughout the movie.

It seems like Arbaaz Khan tried to make a movie similar to Boney Kapoor's Wanted. Today's bollywood is filled with movies showcasing the modern generation influenced by the West. However, Dabaang and Wanted have brought back the old 80-90s movies back starring action heroes like Sunny Deol. I loved watching Wanted and I liked Dabaang too but unlike Wanted, Dabaang lacks a strong plot. It has several loop holes. For example, when the heroine's father died, why didn't she suspect Salman Khan for murdering him? Nonetheless, it is an entertaining movie and you should all watch it with your family.

Bollywood and its influence

If you are from Southeast Asia then you probably know very well that we love to watch movies on a regular basis. If you are not, then you know now. Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis etc are die hard movie fans. We also love to eat and wear new clothes and jewelry. If you go to a crowded market in India, you can easily find numerous wholesale clothing shops, restaurants and much more.

Back to movies. Bollywood, India’s film industry, is one of the biggest and most popular in the world. When it comes to ticket sales and number of films produced, Bollywood is at the top of the list. Recently, Bollywood has been going outside India and gaining more popularity in countries with high number of Indians. There are other film industries in Southeast Asia too but Bollywood is the most dominating one and also very popular in countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh.

If you live outside India, you are probably familiar with its popularity. Bollywood is really famous in foreign countries like New Zealand, Australia, United States of America, United Kingdom and Canada. A lot of movies made in Bollywood earn most of their money outside India these days. In fact, some of the movies are specifically made for Indians living in these countries.

In the end, one thing that is important to remember is that Bollywood plays a very important role in the lives of Southeast Asians.

Ever Shining Star

Bollywood's Celebraty Rekha, arguably termed India’s Greta Garbo, continues to be Bollywood’s ever-graceful style diva even at 54. She is considered to be the eternal diva of the Bollywood film industry. Throughout the 1970s till date she has been known for her beauty, acting talent and dancing skills. She has acted in over 180 films in her career, taking part both in the Indian mainstream cinema as well as in parallel cinema. She has had commercial success as an actress, as well as critical acclaim for her strong performances down the years. The actress, who is synonymous with style and beauty for her fans, surprised many when she bagged the MTV Lycra Maha Style Icon Award in 2004. In 2006, British magazine Eastern Eye listed her as one of “Asia’s Sexiest Women”.

Born in 1954, in Chennai, India, Bhanurekha Ganesan (later known simply as "Rekha") is the daughter of renowned Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan and the Telugu actress Pushpavalli. Her father enjoyed phenomenal success and Rekha was to follow in his footsteps. Rekha's parents were not married, and her father did not acknowledge his paternity during her childhood. It was during the early 1970s, when she was looking for a footing in the Bollywood film industry, that she revealed her origins. Goadalli CID 999, a Kannada film was her first film in which she played the lead role. In 1970 she appeared as a full-fledged leading lady in Hindi movie Sawan Bhadon. The film hogged the limelight for all the wrong reasons and the critics wrote off this dusky, plump girl who later ruled the silver screen. Undeterred by criticism, Rekha pursued her career in Hindi films and signed films with big stars like Rajendra Kumar, Dharmendra and many more. She was seen in films like Gora Aur Kala, Raampur Ka Lakshman, Kahani Kismat Ki, Pran Jaaye Par Vachan Na Jaaye. Though the films were not big hits but did satisfactory business at box office. However, her major break came with Muqaddar Ka Sikandar in which for the first time she appeared opposite Amitabh Bachchan. Both, the audience and the critics, appreciated their on screen chemistry. After that Rekha and Amitabh worked in nine films together including Mr. Natwarlal and Khoon Paseena. Very soon their on screen closeness translated into an off screen affair which was beautifully depicted by Yash Chopra in Silsila (1981) in which real life couple, Amitabh and Jaya played husband and wife.

Her most memorable role, so far, is of the courtesan she played in Umrao Jaan. Her stupendous performance was appreciated with a National Film Award. Apart from success, the average looking, plump and dark girl, who could hardly be called attractive, underwent a remarkable transformation and emerged as the ageless beauty of Indian screen. The makeover was not just physical, the actress also enhanced her acting capabilities. She imbues every role she essayed with a dignity and characterisation that makes it difficult to visualise anyone but her, in those roles. In doing so, she has carved an indelible name for herself in the annals of Indian cinema. A rare blend of beauty and talent, Rekha also hogs the limelight for her timeless beauty and mysterious lifestyle. Today, Rekha lives all by herself in her ivory tower, leading a reclusive life. But that's the way she prefers. And as long as her enigmatic per-sona continues to dazzle us on screen, she'll never have a dearth of fans. She will always re-main one of the greatest stars of all time.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif has six sisters – three older and three younger. She also has a brother, a professional skier and rock climber.
The siblings have been brought up by her mother, a Harvard graduate and successful lawyer, who gave it all up to join a charitable organization. However, while the actress insists that her mom did a fine job, she still misses her dad.

Katrina isn’t in touch with her father. She confessed, “When I see friends who have wonderful fathers who are like pillars of support for their families, I say, if only I had that. But instead of complaining, I should be grateful for all the other things I have.”
Asked if she thinks her father could get back in touch now that she’s a star, Katrina told NDTV’s Walk the Talk, “No, he is not that kind of a man. He is very decent and comes from a good family and they went their own ways because of issues which are personal. He is an affluent person, so he is not going to come back because his daughter is now famous.”
Born in Hong Kong, she says, “My parents separated when we were very young. We were raised by my mother who did a wonderful job. She raised us with the belief and inspiration to find yourself in the world. Live your dreams and find what is going to make you live life freely. She made us tough and she wasn’t the kind of mother who told us to go to college and get a degree and become a doctor or a lawyer. She herself had found her fulfillment in things that were off-beat.”
Well much has been said about Ash and her giggles. But these days, someone else’s are being talked about – Vidya Balan’s. The actress while shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Ishqiya, didn’t know that she was going to be bestowed by a new nick… Apparently, Vidya laughed so much on the sets that her co-star Arshad Warsi calls her ‘Giggles’.

“There’s a story behind this,” he told us, “Vidya laughs a lot and can’t control herself. She just goes on laughing like crazy. She doesn’t even need someone to crack a joke… she laughs JLT (just like that). Sometimes she used to crack up in the middle of a shot and then Naseerudin and I had to wait till she finished… Man, that’s some talent she has! So we call her Giggles.” Now, that’s pretty cute… right in the Piggy Chops nick category.

It is never easy to be daughter of one of most versatile actors of bollywood but this anil kapoor's daughter has the looks , attitude and confidence to make it big. She has starred in two high expected but failed movies called dilli 6 and Saawariya.

Bollywood Actress

This time we have actresses from the past, present and maybe even one from the future.
Also we have links to other Indian cinema Hubs, and a few links so you can watch some of these Bollywood films online.

Reema Sen
Reema Sen
Reema Sen (also known as Rema Sen, Reemma Sen or just Reemma) was born on October 29th, 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

Like a lot of these other ladies, she started out in modeling, then went to music videos and finally the big screen.
She made her acting debut in the 2000 low budget Telugu film, Chitram with Uday Kiran.
Reemma has gone on to appear in almost thirty Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Bengali and Kannada films.
In case you are wondering about all the name changes, Reema Sen changed her name to Reemma to improve her luck.
I think it has something to do with numerology.
Also, she is now just billed as "Reemma".
